At least Rand Paul can now claim membership in an elite club: On Friday, the embattled politician became the third person ever to cancel an appearance on Meet the Press. The decision was made at the last minute, and the show’s executive producer said, “Everything was set and then his press person emailed this afternoon that he was very sorry but he wants to cancel the interview. We tried appealing to the press person to not much avail […] Obviously he has had a very tough week.” Since winning Kentucky’s Republican Senate primary this week, Paul has been under fire for past comments on the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and is now attempting to scale back press coverage. “Rand did Good Morning America today, set the record straight, and now we are done talking about it,” said a spokesman. In 62 years, only Louis Farrakhan and Saudia Arabia’s Prince Bandar bin Khaled al-Faisal have ever canceled appearances on the popular NBC Sunday talk show.
