NATO’s largest base in Afghanistan was hit by an insurgent rocket attack late Saturday, causing a still unknown number of civilian casualties and wounding coalition troops. A military spokesman said that there were a “small number” of injuries. During the assault, insurgents also attempted to breach one of the gates at the base but were stopped, according to a spokesperson, who added, “The perimeter was not breached.” The attack appears to be a less sophisticated follow-up to an assault on another NATO base in Bagram earlier in the week, and left several insurgents dead. British defense ministers had planned to fly into the base Saturday night.
