Will Connecticut voters forgive him? A week after a New York Times story showed Democratic Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal had sometimes exaggerated his military service during the Vietnam War, Blumenthal has apologized in a letter to The Hartford Courant. Earlier, the candidate said he regretted misstatements, which made it sound like he fought overseas, and that he took responsibility for them. Blumenthal won his primary race Friday. Saying he had not always been clear or precise, Blumenthal said in an email, "I have firmly and clearly expressed regret and taken responsibility for my words. I have made mistakes and I am sorry. I truly regret offending anyone."
