Pakistan Lifts Facebook Ban

Pakistan has updated its Facebook status. After two weeks, the country lifted the ban on the social-networking juggernaut, but said it would continue to block pages it deemed “blasphemous.” The incident that triggered the outright ban was a competition that invited users to send in their drawings of the Prophet Mohammad —a sin in the eyes of Muslims. Other sites like YouTube and Wikipedia were also briefly forbidden, but were restored after an outpouring of criticism in the media and on Twitter. Meanwhile, Bangladesh seems to be going in the opposite direction. It banned Facebook on Sunday and will continue to do so until all blasphemous material is removed.
