In an effort to restrengthen ties between the U.S. and India, President Barack Obama announced that the first family will make a trip to the rising South Asian nation in November. He went so far as to make an unprecedented visit to a State Department reception, an overture that an anonymous source told The Washington Times was of Obama's own accord. "I am proud to go to India," he said. Many in India say they feel the Indo-American relationship has taken a backseat to the U.S.'s focus on Pakistan and Afghanistan. Though U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called America's relationship with India "an affair of the heart, not just of the head," she was quick to note that the U.S. doubted that "India has not fully embraced its role in regional and global affairs, or will not make the economic reforms needed to foster additional progress."
