The Miami Art Museum has secured a new home in downtown Miami, with a much-needed infusion of $100 million in county bonds. The Miami-Dade County manager approved the funding for the $220 million project, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, after MAM announced it had received the necessary $30 million in private donations to open up financing from public reserves. “This is the day we've been waiting for, this is a very exciting day for us,” MAM Chairman Aaron Podhurst, a leading proponent of the proposed 120,000-square-foot space, said. MAM’s new building is scheduled to open in 2013.
