South Carolinians tired of being mocked for their state's political sex scandals can thank State Senator Jake Knotts for turning the conversation back to racism. The conservative lawmaker denounced President Obama as well as GOP gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley as "ragheads” on an Internet radio show Thursday. "We've already got a raghead in the White House, we don't need another raghead in the governor's mansion," Knotts said. Haley's parents are Sikh immigrants from India (she converted to Christianity) and her campaign manager denounced Knotts as "an embarrassment to our state and to the Republican Party," and said he "represents all that is wrong with South Carolina politics." Knotts offered a sort-of apology for the incident, saying the remarks "were intended in jest" and the show is "like a local political version of Saturday Night Live."
