Is this a ray of hope or just really blind optimism? BP Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles told the Associated Press Tuesday that "virtually all" of the oil spewing in the Gulf of Mexico will be captured by next week and be reduced to a "relative trickle." Suttles said the current containment system, plus a second pumping ship and a new containment cap, have been successful in plugging the leak. The oil that has begun washing up on the Gulf Coast, he said, was from soon after the April 20th explosion. But even if the leak is successfully contained in the next week, oil will most likely continue to wash ashore for same period, or roughly 50 days. President Obama canceled a trip to Indonesia scheduled for early next week and will instead make his most extensive visit yet to the region on Monday and Tuesday.
