In the five years since the city was devastated by Katrina, New Orleans’ once vibrant arts scene has come roaring back, from the traditional to the contemporary. At the New Orleans Museum of Art, fundraising has been strong enough to revamp the Sculpture Garden, which recently reopened. Meanwhile, at the Contemporary Art Center, the comedian Harry Shearer unveiled a project of candid moments from television news and interview programs. “What Shearer has done is edit out the ‘content’ portion of television interviews and leave us with ... moments stretching to eternity in some cases,” one reviewer wrote. “The subjects think no one is paying attention.” And finally, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art has embraced artists from the South, highlighted by an exhibition of post-Katrina housing.
