President Obama will give his first Oval Office speech on Tuesday. His goal? To pressure BP into creating an escrow account, so the company can compensate businesses and individuals for losses incurred from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. According to BP officials, the company’s board plans to discuss this and other issues related to the spill at a meeting on Monday. Any decisions, however, won’t be announced until Tony Hayward, BP’s chairman and chief executive, has a midweek meeting with Obama—their first face-to-face contact since the spill. “We are considering all these issues and look forward to constructive conversations on Wednesday in the White House,” Andrew Gowers, a senior BP spokesman, told The New York Times.
