On the same day that Israel green lit an independent public commission to probe its deadly May 30 confrontation with an aid ship headed for Gaza, the European Union called on Israel to lift its three-year Gaza blockade. Former British Prime Minister and Middle East envoy Tony Blair has held talks with Israel and other nations in an attempt to sway the country to lift restrictions on "goods that are necessary for ordinary civilian life" reaching the region’s people. On Monday, Blair met with European Union foreign ministers in Luxembourg, telling them: "In the conversations I've had with the Israeli prime minister, I think there is now, in principle, commitment by Israel to move to such a list," he said, referring to a list of rules outlining which goods Gaza can receive in the near future.
