France’s hopes of advancing to the next round were left hanging by a thread Thursday after Mexico beat them 2-0. Les Bleus, as the French team is known, played poorly from the beginning despite a lineup stacked with international stars—they have yet to score a goal through two games at the World Cup. Mexico, on the other hand, took chances playing aggressive soccer and scored first through Javier Hernandez in the 64th minute. Cuauhtemoc Blanco added another from the penalty spot 15 minutes later. Mexico is now in an excellent position to advance out of Group A with Uruguay, while France is left staring down the barrel of an early exit.
