G-8 Condemns N. Korea Sinking

The G-8 banned together to criticize North Korea's sinking of a South Korean warship, killing 46 sailors, and also criticized Israel over its Gaza blockade, describing it as "not sustainable." American officials met with leaders from South Korea Saturday to talk about security in the region. They will meet with Japan and China on Sunday. Meanwhile, the G-20 met to discuss financial reform and the global economy. Leaders discussed the potentially conflicting goals of stimulating the economy and reducing debt. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said common ground could be found between sustainable growth and smart austerity measures. On Friday, the G-8 pledged $5 billion to improve maternal and child health in developing countries.
