Uruguay continued its unexpected run at the World Cup by beating South Korea, 2-1, to book its spot in the quarterfinals. The South American side scored first through Luis Suarez in the eighth minute before South Korea equalized 60 minutes later—it was the first goal Uruguay had conceded at the tournament. But even though South Korea appeared to create more chances late in the game, Suarez struck again with a sumptuous curling shot that bounced in off the far post. Uruguay has won the World Cup twice in its history, with its last success coming in 1950. It will now face the winner of this afternoon’s match between the United States and Ghana.
