Candidate Barack Obama promised he would do something about immigration in the United States. President Obama, now months past his self-imposed deadline of comprehensive reform by the end of his first year in office, is starting to come around. On Tuesday, Obama met with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. On Thursday, he will give a public address, outlining his plan for tightening America's border and, at the time same, providing legal status for 11 million people living in the U.S. illegally. It's possible that a lame-duck Congress will sign a new law following November's election. Latino lawmakers are pleased at the sign of progress but supporters of reform aren't holding their breath. "The question is whether the actions will make the words over the next few weeks," one activist told The Los Angeles Times.
