On the heels of Toy Story 3 and Shrek’s latest installment, M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender in 3-D hits theaters this weekend, but not to the warmest of welcomes as critics are panning this multidimensional film. The movie, based on an incredibly popular Nickelodeon animated TV series, is not going over well as its July 2 release date nears. Roger Ebert points out that the 3-D was added “as an afterthought” to the original 2-D version and says writer-director Shyamalan has made “the drabbest, darkest, dingiest movie of any sort I've seen in years.” The A.V. Club added, “If any movie ever warranted a class-action lawsuit against the filmmakers, it’s The Last Airbender.” Even voicing from the beloved Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel couldn’t save this film, but maybe the 10-year-old crowd it’s aimed at won’t notice.
