As CBS announced its upcoming programming, the network said it will increase diversity by adding a three gay characters after GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) gave them a failing diversity grade for the second year in a row. Entertainment president Nina Tassler announced at the Television Critics Association press tour on Wednesday that the trio of characters will join the new comedy $#*! My Dad Says and two returning series, The Good Wife and Rules of Engagement. "We're disappointed in our track record so far," Tassler announced about the GLAAD grade. "We're going to do it. We're not happy with ourselves." The executive also discussed the highly buzzed show The Talk, which brings former Roseanne star and now out lesbian Sara Gilbert back on the small screen. CBS previously received flack for not mentioning Gilbert’s partner in a press release about The Talk, which will be similar to The View, which noted the other panelists’ spouses. “I've never discussed my personal life," Gilbert explained to reporters about the omission. "The first place I wanted to do it wasn't in a CBS press release."
