The jockeying for the old seat of Helen Thomas—the longtime White House reporter who resigned earlier this year and who sat in an extremely choice spot in the briefing room—has finally come to an end. The Associated Press will get Thomas’ spot in the middle of the second row. Fox News will move up to the first row. NPR will take Fox News' old seat in the second row. Liberal groups lobbied the White House Correspondents Association to put NPR in the front row instead of Fox News, which was called a “right-wing propaganda outlet.” Seating position in the White House briefing room is very important to reporters as it’s a visible indication of status in the Washington press corps.
