A single-engine home-built plane crashed on a San Diego golf course Monday, killing a woman on board and leaving four others with serious injuries. The plane departed from Montgomery Field at about 12:45 p.m., but moments later, the pilot radioed the tower to report an open door, said FAA spokesman Ian Gregor. The tower then lost contact with the aircraft and the plane crashed on the 11th hole of nearby Admiral Baker Golf Course minutes later. All five passengers on board were trapped in the wreckage and removed by emergency crews, said San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Maurice Luque. One woman died, two children were airlifted to a nearby hospital, and the pilot and third child were taken to another hospital with their injuries considered potentially life-threatening, said Luque. The plane, on its way to Fullerton, California, is registered to a man from Mesa, Arizona, according to FAA records, but it remains unclear if he was among the victims. No further information on the victims was immediately available.
