Gunmen shot to death at least 45 people in Karachi, Pakistan, Tuesday in the wake of a politician’s assassination. At least 93 others were wounded. Police and Army Rangers struggled to regain control as dozens of vehicles and stores were set on fire; 10 people were arrested. The lawmaker, Raza Haider, was shot with his bodyguard in a mosque in Nazimabad Monday. Haider belonged to a political party, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, organized for descendents of Indian migrants. Analysts say most people involved in Karachi political parties have ties to criminal activity.
