The sole survivor of the deadly terrorist attack that killed 10 medical workers in northern Afghanistan last week is breaking his silence, giving the Associated Press intimate details of the horrific attack. Safiullah, 28, was the group’s driver and was spared only when he began citing Koranic verses and begging for his life. One of the gunmen, he said, had hitched a ride with the charity team shortly before they were all murdered—except him. “God was good to me," Safiullah, the team’s driver, said of surviving the attack that killed six Americans, three Afghans, one German, and a Briton, all of whom were members of the International Assistance Mission. Safiullah recalled that the team was ambushed by men yelling “Satellite! Satellite!”—a reference for them to turn over their cellphones. “They had made a plan,” Safiullah said, of the attackers. “It was a very organized group. They had leadership. They were well-organized. They were militants.” Fortunate for Safiullah, though, he was forced to walk for hours through a forest and, ultimately, spared.
