Will the international community open their wallets? On Sunday, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited a devastated Pakistan and appealed to foreign countries to send more relief money to the country destroyed by floods. "I am here also to urge the world community to speed up their assistance to Pakistan people," he said, "We will try to mobilize all necessary assistance. And remember that the whole world is behind the people of Pakistan in this time of trial." Ban also met with Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and President Asif Aliz Zardari. In the aftermath of the floods that have destroyed entire villages, displaced tens of millions of people and killed almost 1,600, the U.N. asked for $460 million in relief aid. According to U.N. officials, however, only about 20 percent of that has reached the region.
