Amanda Knox is spending her third summer in Italian prison. The former student from Seattle was convicted late last year for the sexual assault and murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher, in what prosecutors say was a marijuana-fueled rampage with her Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito. Now, Knox is planning to appeal, though prosecutors aren’t letting up at all: they’re pushing for her to serve 30 years in prison instead of 26, and she—and her parents—are being sued for slander. But new evidence could point to another killer. Italian Mafioso Luciano Aviello, now serving a 17-year sentence for another crime, says his brother Antonio killed Kercher and asked him to hide a bloody knife and Kercher’s keys. Knox has gotten one break: a paparazzo was convicted of invading her privacy, and she was awarded $51,000 in damages.
