Good for President Obama: When a reporter in Ohio asked Obama whether he regretted entering the debate over the mosque being built near ground zero, the president thought for a moment and said, “The answer is: no regrets.” Obama said on Friday that he supported the right of Muslims to build there, then backtracked the next day by saying he was only commenting on religious freedom. Meanwhile, Byron York points out that political pundits are starting to clamor for former President George W. Bush to speak out on the issue. “It’s time for W. to weigh in,” Maureen Dowd writes in The New York Times, while The Washington Post’s Eugene Robinson says, “[I] would love to hear from former President Bush on the issue.” And The Daily Beast’s Peter Beinart writes, “Words I never thought I’d write: I pine for George W. Bush.”
