Hillary Clinton’s pledge to blacklist Blackwater from federal contracts appears to have not been in earnest: The company has won a piece of a five-year State Department contract worth up to $10 billion, according to Wired. Eight companies won the Worldwide Protective Services contract to keep embassies and their employees safe, including “International Development Solutions LLC.” It turns out that International Development Solutions is actually a joint venture that Blackwater, now called Xe, set up with Kaseman. The State Department determined it to be “eligible for award.” In the past, Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin has criticized Blackwater for setting up shell companies in order to keep winning government contracts despite its bad name.
