The man who attempted to kill a crowd of Americans by driving a homemade car bomb into the heart of Times Square was given life in prison Tuesday. At Manhattan's federal court, the judge sentenced Faisal Shahzad to life. Shahzad's bomb failed to detonate on May 1; police defused it after they noticed smoke billowing from the vehicle. The self-described Muslim soldier—a former budget analyst from Connecticut and Pakistani immigrant—pleaded guilty in June to 10 terrorism and weapons counts, and defiantly told the judge that the United States' defeat is imminent.
