Linda Norgrove, the British aid worker who died during an attempt to rescue her from her Taliban captors, may have been accidently killed by a U.S. grenade, not a militant’s suicide vest as reported earlier. British Prime Minister David Cameron said he had spoken to Norgrove’s family about the “deeply distressing” new details of her death, but defended the rescue attempt. Cameron said the decision to launch the mission was not easy, but the right one, as the aid worker was in “grave danger.” A joint U.S.-U.K. investigation is being launched into the matter, which Gen. David Petraeus discussed with Cameron on Monday.
