New York gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino’s openly gay nephew says he’s “very offended” by the Republican’s controversial statements about gay people and how he doesn’t want his kids “brainwashed” by them. Jeff Hannon, 23, had been working for Paladino’s campaign in Buffalo, but hasn’t shown up for work since Sunday. Paladino apologized Tuesday for his remarks, saying it was wrong to base assumptions about all gays and lesbians on the actions of a few. (Paladino went on the Today show and criticized gay pride parades and their attendees’ “Speedos.”) The candidate also said Hannon "suffers every day with discriminatory people." Meanwhile, new revelations show that Paladino, whatever his views on gays, had no problem taking their money. He owned two Buffalo buildings that served as gay bars in the mid-2000s. The local newspaper described one venue, Cobalt, as “Way Gay,” and said, "The queens, the techno, the cocktails, the kind of gyration normally confined to Manhattan was in full flaming force at Cobalt."
