For the Tribune Co.’s Lee Abrams, “indefinite” means two days. The company’s chief innovation officer, who this week sent a companywide email containing inappropriate sexual references, and was put on indefinite unpaid leave—and resigned two days later. Abrams had regularly emailed musings to his colleagues on how to abandon conventional storytelling techniques. This time, though, he included a link to a satirical newscast, which he labeled “Sluts.” Several employees lodged complaints, and the company’s chief executive, Randy Michaels—recently under fire for a damning New York Times story that painted the company as having a “frat house” atmosphere—promptly took disciplinary action.
