Will the same hold true for the next round of leaks? When whistle-blower WikiLeaks posted 70,000 classified documents about the Afghanistan War on its website in July, it didn’t reveal any important intelligence sources or methods, Defense Secretary Robert Gates wrote in a letter to Sen. Carl Levin, (D-MI) chairman of the Armed Services Committee. But the Afghans named in the documents could still be in grave danger. A team of 100 Pentagon analysts found that the memos contain mostly info about “tactical military operations,” naming Afghans who worked with the U.S. Those people could be targeted by the Taliban. “The initial assessment in no way discounts the risk to national security," Gates wrote. "However, the review to date has not revealed any sensitive intelligence sources and methods compromised by the disclosure."
