Early Voting Not Good for Reid

Early voting results in two of Nevada’s most populous counties suggest that some serious trouble lies ahead for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. According to local election officials, Republican turnout has been disproportionately high, despite voter registration being split evenly between the two parties. In Reno’s Washoe county, Republicans accounted for 47 percent of the early votes, and Democrats only 40. Las Vegas’ Clark County, which is heavily Democratic, also reported that Republicans had exceeded expectations. The two counties combined account for 86 percent of the state’s voters. Nevada’s two-week early voting period, which tends to account for half of the total turnout, ends on Oct. 29.
