Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez wrapped up a two-day visit to Iran by condemning military threats against the country and expressing solidarity with Ahmadinejad. The two leaders held a news conference in which they called each other “brother” and announced that they’d signed several new agreements on industrial cooperation. The idea of Iran and Venezuela cooperating industrially is especially anxiety-producing for the U.S. now that Venezuela, following Iran, has made a deal with Russia to build its first nuclear power plant, and considering that Ahmadinejad continues to speak threateningly about the U.S. and Israel. "The enemies of our nations will go one day. This is the promise of God and the promise of God will definitely be fulfilled," Ahmadinejad said during the conference. Coming shortly after Ahmadinejad’s visit to Lebanon, the talks with Chavez are partly designed to show the U.S. that its sanctions haven’t isolated Iran from its friends.
