U.S. swimmer Fran Crippen died on Saturday during the final leg of the Marathon Swimming World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Crippen, 26, died of severe fatigue, according to the UAE swimming federation secretary; however, the head of the water sports club in Fujairah said Crippen died of a heart attack. Apparently, before the race Crippen discussed the high temperatures: 100 degrees in the air and 87 degrees in the water. There’s no indication that the heat played a role in his death.
