Both Maine and Connecticut changed colors on Election Night, ending decades-long droughts. Paul LePage, the Republican mayor of Waterville, Maine, narrowly defeated Independent candidate Eliot Cutler in the state’s governor’s race. A conservative Tea Party favorite, LePage took in 38.1 percent of the vote, compared with Cutler’s 36.7 percent, according to The Bangor Daily News. He is Maine's first Republican governor in more than 20 years. Meanwhile in Connecticut, voters elected Democrat Dan Malloy as governor, picking the former mayor of Stamford over Republican Tom Foley and electing its first Democrat to the state’s top office in 20 years, according to Bloomberg.
