Eder Diaz, a 23-year-old student at the University of Texas at El Paso is the latest victim in a series of deadly shootings in the border city of Juarez. Diaz was traveling in a car along with Manuel Acosta, a local from Juarez’s state of Chihuahua, when the two were shot down Tuesday evening. So far, five Americans—all from El Paso—have been killed in the city of Juarez. On Saturday Luis Carlos Araiza, 15, and Joanna Herrera, 27, were killed while inside a BMW sport utility vehicle. That same day Edgar Lopez, 35, was shot dead on a patio in a Juarez home. And on Friday Lorena Izaguirre, 24, was killed at a tortilla shop. Thus far there have been over 2,000 murders in the city alone. Crime is at an all time high in Mexico, as police recently found a mass grave of 19 bodies that have been missing since September. Police were tipped off by a YouTube video, which is also becoming a new trend among drug cartel-related crimes.
