Edison Pena is taking New York by storm. The 34-year-old Chilean miner, who was rescued after 10 weeks underground, is in town ahead of the New York City Marathon and has instantly become a media darling. After a photoshoot on the 86th floor of the Empire State Building—an opportunity he used to check out the marathon course—he was rushed to his appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman. There, he shook his hips and sang along to Elvis Presley’s “Suspicious Minds.” It was enough to earn him an invitation to Graceland. Pena, who ran several miles a day by the light of his headlamp while trapped inside the mine, said he hopes to complete Sunday’s marathon in under six hours.
