An assistant state attorney general in Michigan was fired Monday for using state resources in a campaign to oust the gay student-body president of the University of Michigan. Andrew Shirvell made national headlines after he created a blog casting the student, Chris Armstrong, as pushing a “radical homosexual agenda.” Attorney General Mike Cox said Shirvell was fired for “conduct unbecoming of a state employee, especially that of an assistant attorney general.” According to an investigation, Shirvell allegedly showed up at Armstrong’s house on three separate occasions, and tried to expose Armstrong’s friends as being gay. Shirvell has also been accused of lying to investigators. Shirvell’s attorney, Philip Thomas, said he felt his client “is a victim of the liberal media piling on.” Shirvell also went on several television shows to defend his actions.
