According to an investigation by the Department of Energy, the agency documented 16 alcohol-related incidents from 2007 to 2009, with two occurring during “secure transportation missions,” while agents were checked into hotels at night. In other incidents, an agent was arrested for public intoxication in 2007, and in 2009, two agents were temporarily detained by police officers after an incident at a local bar. Assistant Inspector General Sandra Bruce said “proactive” action had been taken, but admitted any infraction involving alcohol could be a “potential vulnerability in OST’s [Office of Secure Transportation] critical national security mission.”
