Organizers of the famed Cannes Film Festival tapped American actor and director Robert De Niro to preside over the nine-member jury panel this year. The French film festival organizers will pay tribute to De Niro's astounding career in Cannes, as well as his work as the co-founder of the TriBeCa Film Festival, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. De Niro has presented eight films at the Cannes Film Festival over the years, winning the Palme d’Or award for 1976's Taxi Driver and The Mission in 1986. The acclaimed actor presided over the jury twice in the 1980s and said, “I'm very honored and happy” to be back. “The Cannes Film Festival is a rare opportunity for me as it is one of the oldest and one of the best in the world,” De Niro added.
