Early Sunday morning police tried to break up a fight outside of a bar in Baltimore. Gunfire broke out, and an officer and civilian were shot dead. At 1:15 a.m., police were called in to investigate a "friendly fire" situation and fight, but a Baltimore police spokesman says that the plain-clothes officer was attacked and the individuals "began assaulting him severely." The officer, whom police have yet to identify, pulled out his weapon in self-defense. The spokesman explained that "other officers down the street witnessed an individual in plain clothes firing a weapon. It's possible they fired in return." Four civilians and one officer were injured.
