In an abrupt signoff in the final moments of his MSNBC program Countdown on Friday, host Keith Olbermann announced he would be resigning from the network, effective immediately. “This is the last edition of Countdown,” Olbermann said in his final moments, noting that his original tenure, beginning eight years ago, was slated to last three days. MSNBC announced that it and Olbermann “have ended their contract,” but gave no reason for the split. According an MSNBC source, Lawrence O’Donnell’s show on the same channel will move to 8 p.m., with Ed Schultz at 10 p.m. and Rachel Maddow at 9 p.m.
