The Copley-Fairlawn School District in Ohio is not to be messed with. They hired a private investigator to prove that Kelley Williams-Bolar was taking her children to the better-ranked Copley-Fairlawn school rather than the Akron school where she lived. Then they demanded she pay $30,000 in back tuition, reasoning that her daughters got a better education without her paying taxes on it. When she refused, she was indicted and sentenced to 10 days in jail, plus probation and community service. “I felt that some punishment or deterrent was needed for other individuals who might think to defraud the various school districts," said the judge.
