Shortly after their conversation, Obama made a brief statement calling for “concrete steps” for political, social, and economic reforms in Egypt. Earlier Friday, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the administration was reviewing their aid policy for Cairo; the U.S. sends Egypt about $1.5 billion per year. "People in Egypt have rights that are universal," Obama said in a statement.
