Egypt’s anti-government protesters aren’t budging: After six days of demonstrations, a crowd of thousands is camping out overnight in central Cairo’s Tahrir Square and refusing to go anywhere until Hosni Mubarak, the country’s president of 30 years, is ousted. Mubarak has fired his cabinet, appointed his first vice president, and promised reforms—all to no avail. His opponents have rallied around Mohamed ElBaradei as their preferred leader, and called for a general strike on Monday and a march of “millions” on Tuesday. The U.S. government has stopped short of supporting Mubarak’s downfall, but Hillary Clinton did call for an “ orderly transition” of power. Mubarak huddled with army chiefs earlier on Sunday, an ally he must retain if he’s to remain in power.
