Desperate to quell a week’s worth of protests, the Egyptian state’s information ministry told CNN on Monday that it would be shutting down mobile-phone networks in anticipation of a mass demonstration planned in Cairo on Tuesday. Internet access has already been cut off as well, leaving anti-regime protesters with few ways to communicate. On Tuesday, the demonstrators are planning to initiate a general strike as well as a “ march of millions” in yet another push to oust longtime President Hosni Mubarak.
