The entire midsection of the U.S. is experiencing one of the harshest winter storms on record, with storm warnings from Maine to New Mexico—a distance of more than 2,300 miles. More than 6,000 flights were canceled by Tuesday afternoon, accounting for 21 percent of all air travel in, to, or from the United States. In fact, so many big cities have been affected that the storm may set a record for flight cancellations. Nine states in the Midwest are in the midst of blizzard conditions. Chicago alone is bracing for up to two feet of snow.
