20,000 Protest in Yemen

Over 20,000 people took to the streets in Yemen on Thursday, calling for an end to the current regime's corruption. As demonstrations stretched past into their second week and turned violent in Egypt, Yemenis held their own "day of rage," saying President Abdullah Saleh's promise to step down in 2013 isn't enough. "The people want regime change," protesters shouted in Sanaa, Yemen's capital city. "No to corruption, no to dictatorship." Like Mubarak in Egypt, Saleh has ruled the country for three decades. The United States relies heavily on Saleh to repress a growing al Qaeda presence in the Arabian Peninsula nation, which suffers from poverty and perpetually on the brink of becoming a failed state.
