A little-known nonprofit in California is about to open up a frantic rush for new domain names on the Web. Starting in 2012, the universe of possible URL suffixes will expand exponentially beyond the familiar .com into .love, .eco, .god, .gay, and more. But who will get what? The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, which controls domain names, is convening a conference this week in San Francisco, where they’ll explain how to apply for the new suffixes.
