North Carolina police on Thursday fatally shot a bank robbery suspect who had held seven people hostage for three hours. Police said the suspect, whom they have not identified, attempted to rob a Wachovia bank in Cary at around 3 p.m. When cops arrived on the scene, the suspect had barricaded himself inside the bank with the hostages—where he stayed for three hours. While some people were released gradually throughout the robbery, police said the gunman was unaware of another person hiding in the building who shared information with the police. After tense negotiations, the suspect emerged from the building holding a gun to a woman’s head—when around 15 shots were fired by police, fatally hitting the gunman in the chest. None of the seven hostages were harmed.
