Sorry, Santa: The nation's Christmas tree, a mighty 42-foot-tall Colorado blue spruce, toppled over on Saturday morning in Washington. The National Weather Service had issued a "High Wind Warning" with gusts between 25 and 60 mph for the D.C. area, and it’s believed that the winds toppled the mighty spruce. No one was injured. The tree was decorated over the holidays with green-hued LED lights and snowflake ornaments (placed in a "protective plastic globe" to protect them from bad weather). A National Park Service spokesman said that in the past, national Christmas trees have been blown down by winds. The spokesman added that they have already picked a successor, which will be planted in the coming weeks.
